Summary

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

“A magnificent spy novel. A maze of mirrors where nothing is as it seems.” –Javier Castillo, author of El día que se perdió la cordura (The Day Sanity Was Lost)

Summer, 1944. Monique de Bissy, a young woman in the Belgian resistance, has managed to escape the Germans and has been rescued by the escape line Comète. In fragile health, she is taken in by Martín Inchauspe, an aristocrat suspected of trafficking artworks plundered by the Nazis. The two soon forge a moving relationship, the result of undeniable attraction, that is soon battered by the complexity and ambiguity of the circumstances in which nothing—and nobody—is as it seems. Mixed up in two complex situations—the worlds of smuggled artwork and biological weapons caused by the Nazis—they must come clean and discover their true purposes.

Fernando García-Pañeda skillfully constructs a novel that is not just a great spy story, but also a reflection of a time of shadows, conspiracies, despoilment, and contraband, in which the most important thing is just staying alive.
