But although Zubaida is horribly mutilated, she doesnt die. When an American soldier chances to see Zubaida, he cant ignore her suffering. He takes herdespite standing ordersto the U.S. Medics. Assisted by a large coalition of benefactors, Zubaida is flown to Los Angeles where she begins a series of surgeries by Dr. Peter Grossman, who (with his wife Rebecca) eventually takes the child into his own home. This is a heartfelt and inspiring story of incredible courage equally matched by incredible kindness.
