Author Biography

Dr. Marjorie E. Miles was born in Philadelphia and raised in Somerset County from the age of 4. The youngest of seven children, she received her formal education in the Somerset County Public Schools on the eastern shore of Maryland. After earning a Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, she earned her first Masters Degree from Salisbury University and a second Masters from Coppin State University. In 2000 Dr. Miles earned her doctorate in Urban Educational Leadership from Morgan State University. On May 20, 2011 she earned her second doctorate, a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Dr. Miles has been married to Tyrone for 38 years and views herself as a child of God, an educator, a change agent, a wife, a sister, a mother and a grandmother. She has worked for over 30 years in the business of education, in which her career as an educator began in the Somerset County Public Schools as a Title I Liaison in 1978. Since that time she has worked as a classroom teacher, a curriculum specialist, assistant principal, principal, Director of Compensatory and Funded Programs, and as an Executive Assistant to an Area Superintendent.

Active in the Baltimore community, Dr. Miles has served on several community Boards which included the City-Wide Special Education Advocacy Project, the Coppin Heights Development Corporation and on the Urban Education Corridor Oversight Board, to name a few. With all that she has learned and accomplished, she views herself as a servant leader.

Voted unanimously by the Board of Education, Dr. Marjorie Miles was tapped as Superintendent of for Somerset County Public Schools. After serving her beloved county for three years Dr. Miles returned to Baltimore where she has put her energy into re-connecting to her Baltimore roots and discovering her retirement encore. She continues to work part-time for the Maryland State Department of Education in their Family Support and Dispute Resolution Branch. Today, she is dedicated to the uplifting of God's Kingdom and deeply involved in the the revolution for the evolution of the soul!
