Author Biography
About the Illustrator:
Winslow Homer (1836-1910) was an illustrator for many popular magazines, and for novels, sheet music covers, and 13 children's books. He is best known for his watercolors, and his stunning interpretations of the sea hold a unique place in the history of American art.
Maurice Sendak has illustrated more than 80 books for children, including Where the Wild Things Are, In the Night Kitchen, and Outside Over There.
Joseph W. Reed is professor English and American studies at Wesleyan University, and the author of Three American Originals: John Ford, William Faulkner, and Charles Ives and American Scenarios: The Uses of Film Genre. He is also an accomplished artist.
